Let me be the first to welcome you. (You’re most certainly in the right place!)
I’ve worked in medicine for over 50 years and am proud to be known as one of America’s preeminent heart surgeons.
My colleague Leonard Bailey and I performed more infant and pediatric heart transplants than anyone else in the world. I’ve also had the privilege to operate in over 30 countries – including charitable missions to China, India, and Zimbabwe.
Then in 2001, I met a so-called “hopeless” patient suffering from heart disease. By making some unusual changes in his diet — almost by chance — this man made a complete turnaround.
In working with him, I made some major discoveries that changed the course of my career. I learned about some key nutrients that are deficient in the American diet, as well as some staple household foods which are actually toxic to the human body.
When I first met this “lost cause” patient, I was dangerously overweight myself. I had high blood pressure, bad cholesterol, digestive issues, and my body felt weak.
I ran 30 miles a week and ate a low-fat, vegetarian diet. Yet no matter what I did, the weight just wouldn’t budge. I started to worry that my best years were behind me…
Hey, that’s me — Dr. Steven Gundry.
I’m a husband, father, cardiac surgeon, medical innovator, author, and founder of Gundry MD.
But by following my new research – I was able to lose 70 pounds in just one year AND become stronger, healthier, and more active than ever.
So shortly afterwards, I left the operating table to do something very different…
I founded medical institutes in Palm Springs and Santa Barbara to help people avoid surgery.
(That’s why my colleagues now call me “No More Mr. Knife Guy.”)
Since then, I’ve been fortunate to help tens of thousands of patients turn around a whole host of health issues — including low energy, obesity, heart disease, autoimmune conditions, diabetes, and more.
And Gundry MD is a revolutionary expansion of that mission.

Where to Find Me
I’m the Director and Founder of the International Heart & Lung Institute as well as the Center for Restorative Medicine in both Palm Springs, CA and Santa Barbara, CA.
I work six days a week at these offices, where I love helping patients take control of their health.
